From Digital Capture to Fine Art Print June 12-15, 2008 - Killarney Lodge, Algonquin Park
Sold Out
Join me, professional landscape photographer Andrew Collett for a truly unique photography adventure in beautiful Algonquin Park. During our 4 days together we will immerse ourselves in all aspects of photography and digital image processing. I will be teaching you everything I know about landscape photography including composition, camera craft, digital image processing and fine art print making. I have been photographing Algonquin almost exclusively for the past 3 years and have come to know the landscape intimately. I will be taking you to some of my favourite locations giving you the opportunity to capture the amazing natural beauty of the park.
This is about as comprehensive a workshop as there is and will cover everything from composition, image processing, fine art print making, and field technique.
During our workshop you will learn...
Camera Craft & Technique
Image Quality Learn to consistently take perfectly exposed, tack sharp images. Learn why it is critical to get it right in camera first rather than relying on post production to correct errors.
Perspective & Lens Choice Wide angle or telephoto? Learn the creative impact that lens choice has on your photographs and how to find fresh viewpoints and open up creative doors by learning to see how your lens sees.
Composition & Light
Composition and Subject Selection Learn advanced creative techniques for composing your photographs and artistically placing your subject.
Light The most important ingredient. Learn how to use natural light to inject drama, enhance colours, and create a sense of mood in your photographs.
Digital Image Processing & Fine Art Printing
Learn the Fine Art work flow for properly processing your digital photographs. From the Raw Converter to the final print, I will be covering all the steps I use to create my fine art prints.
Workshop Outline
Thursday June 12th
Arrive at Killarney Lodge in time for the 4:00pm orientation and overview of our 4 days together. After an early dinner we will be heading out along one of Algonquin's trails to capture the early evening light and of course the sunset from one of Algonquin's famous cliff top vantage points.
Friday June 13th Sunrise is early this time of year but the photographic opportunities are worth it. We will be in position to capture the pre-dawn twilight and continue shooting through the golden hours of the morning. This is a great time of year to photograph Moose in the morning, especially newborns and their mothers, so we will do our best to see if we can't locate a few.
We will return back to the lodge for a well deserved breakfast after which I will be covering how to process images using Adobe Camera Raw. If you have a notebook computer be sure to bring it with either your copy of Adobe Photoshop and the Raw Converter or at the least a downloaded 30 day trial version from Adobe. If you do not have a notebook computer I will be using my main computer system and will be able to demonstrate the process for you.
As a special treat for Friday afternoon I have arranged for one of the Park Naturalists to take us on a private 2 hour tour where we will learn about the ecology of the forest what makes Algonquin Park such unique natural treasure.
After dinner we will again be heading out to photograph sunset and the late evening twilight.
Saturday June 14th The day will be similar to Friday with the exception of going to different locations for our sunrise and sunset shoots. I will also be expanding on what I taught you during the previous digital processing session to include fine tuning your photographs in Photoshop, sharpening, monitor calibration, soft proofing, and of course printing. I will have on hand either an Epson 7800 or 4800 printer to demonstrate the complete fine art printing work flow from Raw file to final print. Each of you will be able to work on your images and then create a fine art print.
Sunday June 15th We will head out as usual for our sunrise shoot. After breakfast I will spend the final couple of hours critiquing images and recapping what has been covered. A review of the digital work flow will be covered and I will demonstrate how to use a few third party software plug-ins that I find helpful in my image processing work flow. Lunch is included on Sunday so by all means hang around and enjoy.
We can never predict the weather and conditions so the above outline might change slightly.
